A Special Christmas Gift

We had an extra special Christmas gift this year... a visit from Zach.  On leave from his base in Iwakuni, Japan, Zach spent several days at Bonny & Steve's house for the Christmas holidays.  He took in some duck hunting with Steve a couple of early (and cold) mornings followed by several nice evenings at home where Bonny cooked a few of his favorite dishes.

We saw Zach as much as we could during those evenings.  He taught me, Alex, and Eric how to play Texas Hold'em one evening and we were able to Skype Nata and visit with her as well.  Another night, Steve grilled boudain and duck that Danny Landry and his wife Lisa brought to share.

Bonny sent these pictures of Zach playing with Nixon and McKenna, Nata's baby and step-daughter.  Zach went with Bonny & Steven to visit Nata in Ohio for a few days after his visit here.

Zach left Ohio for a short stay in Charolette, NC before returning to Japan.

A Big Green Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving this year at Bonny & Steve's new home in Orange, where we found Steve with this "Big Green Tractor". He had it on loan from a friend in order to do some dirt work in his generous-sized yard. They have such a nice new house and really seem to be enjoying it, after being holed-up in a tiny trailer in the woods of Buna for more than a year after Hurricane Ike destroyed their Bridge City home.

They are located well out of harms way for the next storm. North of I-10 and in a tree-less field with good elevation, they are determined to not have a repeat of 2008 hurricane season. They even included a "Hurricane Room" in their new garage's design, with a fully equipped kitchen and bath, where they can live should another storm come knock out power for several days. They can power the room with a generator until power can be restored after the storm.

Tonalta School of Music

Eric performed this past Thursday with his band mates from his summer music camp at Tonalta School of Music. He had been going to camp all week to jump start his learning to play drums and bass guitar.  Here's a clip featuring Eric on the drums on a song he and his band mates wrote and played at the show.

And here's another clip featuring Eric on Bass.  Rock on, my son.  Rock on.
